Women's Lacrosse Edges Potsdam in Overtime, 13-12

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Senior midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) scored the go ahead goal with 3:38 remaining in overtime to lift the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday night in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Bridgewater improves to 2-0 on the season while Potsdam slips to 0-2.

Lennon paced the Bears with four goals while sophomore attack Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied three goals and senior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.) added two goals and an assist.

The game was close throughout with neither team leading by more than two goals.  Bridgewater led 8-7 at the intermission and held an 11-9 advantage with 13:55 remaining in the second half.

Junior attack Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, Ct.) notched an unassisted tally for Potsdam at the 12:53 mark and classmate Whitney Boshart (Calcium, N.Y.) tied the game at 11-11 less than three minutes later on a free position goal.

BSU regained the lead as Jones netted her second marker of the evening at 7:31 off an assist from junior attack Kristen White (Pelham, Mass.).  With the goal, Jones tied Shannon Manning's all-time program mark of 228 set a season ago.

Junior attack Carly Richard (Niskayuna, N.Y.) knotted the score at 12-12 for Potsdam with 4:38 remaining.  Lennon had two opportunities to put the Bears back on top in regulation but was denied by Potsdam junior netminder Kaci Milligan (Liverpool, N.Y.) at the 2:19 mark and missed on a free position attempt with 1:12 left to play.

After Lennon tallied the winning goal in overtime, the Bears did not allow a shot over the rest of the extra session to secure the win.  Bridgewater held a 43-22 shot advantage for the game as well as 24-19 advantage in ground balls and an 18-11 edge in draw controls.

BSU senior goaltender Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) turned aside six shots to pick up the win between the pipes for the Bears.  Milligan recorded 20 saves for Potsdam.

Bridgewater returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Bears travel to MIT to take on the Engineers at 1:00 PM.
