Women's Lacrosse Defeats Becker College, 22-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA), senior attack Katie DeMaio (Port Jefferson Station, NY) and junior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) combined for 13 goals and 12 assists to lead the Bridgewater State College Bears to a 22-2 victory over New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) foe Becker College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater State improves to 7-4 overall with the win and 2-1 in the NEWLA.  Becker falls to 2-7 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

Manning, who led all player with nine points on three goals and six assists, now has 322 points (199 goals, 123 assists) in her outstanding career.  She needs just 15 points to pass Paula Habel (2000-2003) as the Bears' all-time leading scorer.

DeMaio and Jones each tallied five goals and three assists, while junior midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) chipped in with two goals and two assists.  Ten different players scored at least one goal for the Bears while twelve recorded at least one point.

Senior goaltender Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) made one save between the pipes for the Bears before being replaced by junior Katie Weber (Arlington, MA) with 10:14 remaining in the first half.  Griffin, who did not allow a goal in 19 plus minutes of work, also scored her first goal of the season.  Weber played the last 40:14 and turned aside two shots.

Bridgewater scored the first 11 goals of the game and coasted to the win.  The Bears led 12-2 at the half and kept the Hawks off the scoreboard in the final stanza.  BSC outshot Becker by a margin of 37-6 and held a 23-3 advantage in draw controls.

Freshman midfielder Vanessa Laureano (Dracut, MA) and sophomore midfielder Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT) scored for Becker, while sophomore netminder Lindsey Peluso (Dudley, MA) made nine saves. 

Bridgewater State will host a non-conference game against Plymouth State next Thursday at 4 PM, while Becker entertains Lasell College on Wednesday also at 4.
