BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior forward Sophia Gaucher has been selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Team of the Week.
Gaucher averaged 16.5 points, nine rebounds, two assists and 3.5 steals in a perfect 2-0 MASCAC week for the Bears while shooting 60% (15-25) from the floor. The Lakeville, Massachusetts product notched 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, three steals and a blocked shot in a 77-40 victory over Worcester State, and posted a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds (six offensive) to go along with two assists and four steals in a 95-51 win over Fitchburg State.
In 22 games this season, Gaucher is averaging 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals. She is also shooting 46.5% (87-187) from the floor.
Gaucher currently ranks fifth in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and ninth in blocked shots (0.6 bpg).
In 83 games over four seasons with the Bears, Gaucher has amassed 644 points, 406 rebounds, 143 assists, 28 blocked shots and 78 steals.
The BSU women's basketball team is currently 14-10 on the season and 10-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears wrap up regular season play on Wednesday evening when they travel to Westfield State University to take on the Owls at 5:30.
