BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University senior forward Sophia Gaucher has been selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Team of the Week.
Gaucher scored 21 points on 8 of 12 (66.7%) shooting and added eight rebounds (five offensive), two assists, two steals and two blocked shots in the Bears’ decisive 100-70 MASCAC win last week over Salem State University.
In 18 games this season, Gaucher is averaging 9.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She is also shooting 43.9% (65-148) from the floor.
Gaucher currently ranks seventh in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and tenth in blocked shots (0.7 bpg). She is also tied for tenth among the conference leaders in assists.
In 79 games over four seasons with the Bears, Gaucher has amassed 596 points, 378 rebounds, 138 assists, 26 blocked shots and 69 steals.
The BSU women's basketball team is currently 11-9 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in the MASCAC. The conference schedule continues on Wednesday evening when the Bears travel to Framingham State University for a 5:30 game with the Rams.
