Sophia Gaucher Selected to NEWBA Team of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior forward Sophia Gaucher has been selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Team of the Week.

A native of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Gaucher averaged 17 points, nine rebounds (2.5 offensive), 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots while shooting 44% (11-25) from the floor and 87.5% (7-8) at the free throw line in a perfect 2-0 MASCAC week for the Bears.

Gaucher notched 17 points, eight rebounds (two offensive), one assist, three steals and three blocks in an 85-79 victory over Westfield State University, and posted a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds (three offensive) to go along with a pair of assists in a 69-64 win at Fitchburg State University.

In 17 games this season, Gaucher is averaging nine points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She is also shooting 41.9% (57-136) from the floor.

Gaucher currently ranks ninth in the MASCAC in both field goal percentage and blocked shots (0.6 bpg), and is tied for tenth among the conference leaders in assists.

In 78 games over four seasons with the Bears, Gaucher has amassed 575 points, 370 rebounds, 136 assists, 24 blocked shots and 67 steals.

Gaucher is the third Bears to earn NEWBA Team of the Week honors joining teammates Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Kylie Grassi (Plymouth, Mass.).

The BSU women's basketball team is currently 10-9 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain conference foe Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock.
