Women's Basketball Drops 80-42 Decision to #6 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The sixth-ranked Tufts University women's basketball team cruised to an 80-42 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at Cousens Gymnasium.

The host Jumbos jumped out to a 14-2 lead and never looked back as they improve to 7-0 on the season. The visiting Bears fall to 1-6.

Junior forward Erica DeCandido (North Wales, Pa.) tallied a game-high 21 points on 9 of 11 shooting to lead the way for Tufts. DeCandido also notched nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Senior guard Jac Knapp (Westfield, N.J.) added 14 points and six assists for the Jumbos, while freshman guard Sofia Rosa (Sudbury, Mass.) came off the bench to score 13 points and grab six boards (four offensive) in 16 minutes of action. Knapp was 7-for-10 from the floor. Rosa went 4-for-4 from the field and 5-for-6 at the free throw line.

Senior guard Danielle Arcidiacono (Bellingham, Mass.) scored 15 points in 25 minutes off the bench to pace the Bears. Freshman guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) checked in with eight points on 3 of 4 shooting in 23 minutes off the bench to go along with three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The Jumbos held a 28-10 advantage after one quarter of play, led 44-23 at the break, 68-37 at the end of three and got up by as many as 38 points on two occasions in the fourth quarter including the final score of 80-42.

Tufts shot 50% (33-66) from the floor and converted 12 of 15 (80%) free throw attempts. The Jumbos held a significant 51-18 rebounding advantage (20-3 offensive) and finished with a decided edge in points off turnovers (24-6), second chance points (20-3) and points in the paint (36-2).

Bridgewater State connected on 9 of 17 (53%) three-point field goal attempts, but shot just 19% (6-31) from inside the arc.

In upcoming action, the Bears host Dean College on Thursday evening at 5:30 while the Jumbos travel to the University of New England on Saturday afternoon to take on the Nor'easters at one.
