Chanelle Melton Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Chanelle Melton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Melton averaged 14.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears last week. She also shot 53% (18-34) from the floor and 80% (8-10) at the free throw line.

Melton tallied 14 points, nine rebounds and an assist in a 49-42 MASCAC win on the road at MCLA, and notched 19 points, nine boards, five assists and a blocked shot in an 84-76 conference victory over Westfield State who was previously unbeaten in conference play. Melton also notched 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 74-28 non-conference triumph over Elms College.

In 21 games this season, Melton is averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50% (84-168) from the floor. She currently ranks second in the MASCAC in field goal percentage.

In 101 career games at Bridgewater State, Melton has amassed 960 points, 470 rebounds, 106 assists, 39 blocks and 103 steals.

The BSU women’s basketball team is currently 8-13 on the season and 4-4 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain Salem State University on Wednesday evening at 5:30.
