Women's Basketball Drops 70-62 Decision to Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team dropped a 70-62 decision to host Worcester State on Saturday afternoon at the Worcester State Lancer Gym.

 Worcester State improves to 11-12 on the season and 7-3 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) standings. The Bears fall to 10-13 overall (5-5 MASCAC).

Sophomore center Britt Herring (Brookfield, Mass.) led the way for the lancers with a double double of 23 points on 11-16 (68%) shooting while pulling down 11 boards.

Freshman guard Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.) also had a double double 14 points on 6-11 shooting and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Brianna Hackett (Hollis, NH) added 12 points and senior forward Bianca Langford (Worcester, Mass.) added a game high 12 rebounds.

Senior forward Jennie Lindland (Edgartown, Mass.) led the way for the bears with 19 points on 7-12 shooting (58%). Junior forward Rhiana Page (Brookline, Mass.) added 14 points and pulled down 6 boards, while sophomore guard Sara Dasilva (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 10 points including 2-5 from beyond the arc.

The bears closed out the first quarter 29-15 but went cold in the second as the lancers went on a 25-4 run to close out the half 40-33. The bears were able to cut the deficit to four with 9:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. The lancers went on a 7-4 run to bring the lead back to 10. The bears were able to pull close off of back to back layups from Page and senior guard Stephanie DeSantis (Walpole, Mass.). The bears were unable to score in the final 35 seconds as a pair of free throws from Hackett secured the lead.

Worcester State shot 48% (27-56) from the floor and went only 14-27 (52%) from the charity stripe. Bridgewater shot 32% (22-68) from the floor and 15-17 (88%) from the line. The bears were out rebounded 52-32 while only turning the ball over 9 times compared to the lancers 23.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams as Bridgewater travels to Westfield State, while Worcester State hosts Framingham State University for their Senior Night.
