WORCESTER, Mass. -- All-Tournament Team selection junior Abby Andrews (Ann Arbor, Mich.) scored 16 points and hauled in nine rebounds to lead Oberlin College past Bridgewater State University, 57-40, in the consolation game of the WPI Holiday Tournament Saturday afternoon in Harrington Auditorium.

The Yeowomen improve to 4-6 with the win, while the Bears fall to 3-8 with their fifth straight setback.

Bolstered by 68% () shooting in the first half, the Yeowomen led from wire to wire. Andrews scored the first six points of the game and ended the initial frame with ten. BSU senior Chelsea Saucier (Portland, Maine) drained a buzzer-beating three to close out the first quarter to cut the deficit to 19-10.

Oberlin continued to pull away in the second, outscoring the Bears 18-5 in the quarter led by six points on a pair of trifectas by sophomore Alex Stipano (Alexandria, VA). As a team, the Yeowomen scored 22 points in the paint over the first 20 minutes, while all of the Bears' scoring came off the bench. Oberlin led 37-15 at the break.

As she did in the first, Andrews netted the first six points to begin the third quarter. A jumper by freshman Ally Driscoll (Ellicott City, Md.) with 3:10 remaining in the period gave the Yeowomen their biggest lead of the game at 31 points, 48-17.

Back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore Danielle Arcidiacono (Bellingham, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Whyte (Braintree, Mass.) followed by a Jennie Lindland (Edgartown, Mass.) jumper closed out the scoring in the quarter as the Bears pulled to within 48-25.

A Whyte trifecta and a jumper by junior Megan Ianiro (Ashland, Mass.) to open the final period got the Bears to within 18 points at 48-30. Four straight points from sophomore Olivia Canning (Sudbury, Mass.), however, put an end to the run and thwarted any hopes of a BSU comeback.

Canning also narrowly missed a double-double with ten points and nine boards as did junior Tyler Parlor (Detroit, Mich.) with 13 rebounds and nine points. Stipano added nine points for the Yeowomen, while freshman Maggie Gross (Binghamton, N.Y.) pulled down six rebounds and sophomore Sarah Thompson (Manchester, Mich.) handed out five assists.

The Yeowomen shot 51% (25-49) from the floor.

Whyte led Bridgewater State with 14 points in 23 minutes off the bench. In fact, the BSU reserves accounted for 30 of the BSU's 40 points.

The Bears struggled with their shooting connecting on just 24% (16-66) of their field goal attempts including 8-for-34 (24%) from three-point range. Bridgewater also made just one trip to the free throw line (0-for-1).

The Bears forced 22 turnovers in the game while committing just 11. Oberlin, however, held an 18-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Oberlin heads to Washington, D.C. for a 5pm matchup with Catholic on Monday. Bridgewater State travels to UMass Boston for a 5pm tip off on Thursday.
