Women's Basketball Posts 75-56 Win over Maine Augusta at Ed Hockenbury Classic

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team posted a 75-56 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta in the consolation game of the 2016 Ed Hockenbury Classic.

The Bears even their record at 3-3 with the win, while the Moose fall to 5-5.

Junior forward Rhiana Page (Brookline, Mass.) earned All-Tournament honors for the Bears. Page tallied 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. She also added four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Senior guard Stephanie DeSantis (Walpole, Mass.) added a team-high 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting for the Bears. DeSantis also contributed three boards, two assists and two steals.

Junior guard Christine Curran (Ayer, Mass.) tallied 11 points and classmate Jennifer Whyte (Braintree, Mass.) added ten to round out the Bears' double-digit scorers.

The Bears shot 57% (29-51) from the floor, including 8-for-18 (44%) from three-point range, and forced 26 turnovers. Bridgewater held a 35-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Sophomore forward Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Mass.) and senior forward Jamie Plummer (Richmond, Maine) combined to score 46 of Maine's 56 points. LaFountain led all players with 27 points on 11 of 14 shooting. She also dished out six assists. Plummer, who garnered All-Tournament accolades, posted a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.

The BSU bench, led by Whyte's ten points, outscored the Maine-Augusta reserves, 25-0.

The Bears trailed 38-37 at the intermission but outscored the Moose 38-18 in the second half (21-8 in the fourth quarter).

Bridgewater entertains Tufts University on Tuesday night at seven. The game marks the home opener for the Bears.
