PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior forward Rhiana Page (Brookline, Mass.) scored 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's basketball team to a 43-37 victory over Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening at the Murray Center.

The Bears improve to 2-1 on the young season, while the host Anchorwomen fall to 2-2.

Page added five rebounds, two assists and a game-high four steals.

Bridgewater overcame some offensive woes in the first quarter as the Bears scored just two points in the period and shot 1-for-15 from the floor. The BSU defense, however, held the Anchorwomen to just six points on 3 of 15 shooting over the opening ten minutes.

The Bears bounced back by converting 7 of 11 field goal attempts in the second quarter and outscoring the Anchorwomen, 17-11, to take a 19-17 lead into halftime.

Bridgewater extended the advantage to five, 30-25, after three periods of play. Page then scored nine of the Bears' 13 points in the final quarter on perfect 4-for-4 shooting. 

With the score knotted at 37-37 with under four minutes remaining in the fourth, Page scored the final six points of the game on a pair of layups and two free throws to give the Bears the 43-37 win.

The Anchorwomen missed their final six shots of the game and turned the ball over three times over the last four minutes.

Senior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, Mass.) paced the hosts with a game-high 19 points, while freshman guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, Mass.) added ten points and nine rebounds.

BSU senior guard Chelsea Saucier (Portland, Maine) contributed eight points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and three steals.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well. The Bears connected on 33% (17-52) of their field goal attempts and went 3-for-20 (15%) from behind the arc. The Anchorwomen shot just 28% (14-50) from the floor and 12% (2-17) from three-point range.

Turnovers were even at 21 apiece, but Bridgewater held a 16-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Bears are off until next Tuesday night (Nov. 29) when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a seven o'clock game with the Corsairs. RIC will host Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 27) at two.
