Boutilette, Homich Lead Women's Hoops to 90-61 MASCAC Win over MCLA

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior guard Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 assists, and junior forward Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) scored a game-high 21 points, to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a convincing 90-61 victory over visiting MCLA in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The host Bears improve to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in the MASCAC with the win.  The Trailblazers slip to 8-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Boutilette knocked down 9 of 11 field goal attempts while adding six rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals.  Homich notched a game-high five steals to go along with her double-double  She was also 3-for-6 from three-point range.

Senior guard Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals, while junior guard Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass.) added 11 points, six boards and three assists.

Bridgewater took control of the game in the latter part of the opening stanza as the Bears held the Trailblazers scoreless over the final five minutes.  Bridgewater would close out the half on a 10-0 run and head to the intermission with a 50-29 lead.  MCLA would get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.  The Bears got up by as many as 29 points on four different occasions in the second half including the final tally of 90-61.

Bridgewater held a 49-40 rebounding advantage while offensive boards were even at 18 apiece.  The Bears outscored the Trailblazers 48-24 in the paint, and the BSU bench, led by eight points apiece from sophomore Rachel Kusz (Worcester, Mass.) and Alana Watkins (Wareham, Mass.), outscored the MCLA reserves, 24-6.

Senior guard Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, N.Y.) paced the visitors with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and a pair of blocks.  Freshman guard Mariah Brown (Windsor Locks, Conn.) finished with 14 points, while senior guard Johanna Miller (Greenfield, Mass.) tallied eight points and ten boards.

In upcoming MASCAC action, Bridgewater entertains Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon at one while MCLA travels to Salem State University next Tuesday evening to take on the Vikings at 5:30.
