Women's Hoops Downs Colby to Advance to Mariner Classic Title Game

Michaela Cosby's (Walpole, Mass.) free throws at 3:04 lifted Bridgewater State to a 61-60 win over Colby College in the second game of the Mariner Classic on Friday evening at Smith Gymnasium.

The Bears (1-0) advance to Saturday's 3 p.m. championship game opposite host Maine Maritime, a 67-60 winner over Maine-Fort Kent.  Colby (0-1) will play the Bengals of Maine-Fort Kent in the 1 p.m. consolation game.

Cosby finished with a game-high 24 points and added a team-best 11 rebounds. Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) added 17 points and 10 boards for the Bears and Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass.) had 11 points.

Desi Smith led the Mules with 23 points and Diana Manduca added 10 points.

Colby, which trailed 35-20 at the break, used a 14-3 scoring run in the second half to get within four, 49-45, on a pair of Smith free throws. Manduca knocked in two free throws at 3:16 to give Colby a 60-59 lead before Cosby's free throws.

Bridgewater built a 27-18 lead in the first half and went into the locker room with a 15 points lead. Scores by Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.), Cosby, Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) and Hascom,  inished off an 8-2 scoring run for the Bears to end the first.
