Women's Hoops Falls to Tufts, 74-35

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University Jumbos cruised to their seventh straight win, 74-35, over the Bridgewater State University Bears in non-league women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gym.

The Jumbos were 5 for 12 from three-point range in the first half to help them to a 23-point lead at the break, 37-14. First-year Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, CA) converted on three of those three-pointers and had 11 points. Her classmate Hannah Foley (Acton, MA) had 10 first-half points.

Junior Michaela Cosby (Walpole, MA) had 10 of Bridgewater State's 14 points in the first 20 minutes on 4 for 7 shooting from the field.

Tufts scored the first 12 points of the second half to put the game away. Six of the points came from sophomore Caitlin McClure (Arlington, VA).

Senior Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.

The Jumbos shot 46.2 percent (30/65) for the game and 37.5 percent (6/16) from long range. Tufts held the Bears to just 25 percent (13/52) shooting.

Tufts destroyed the Bears on the boards, 51-29, including 15 offensive rebounds.

Foley finished as the game's high scorer with 17 points, going 6 for 9 from the field and 3 for 5 from the three-point line. Morehead and senior Tiffany Kornegay (Carver, MA) also finished in double figures with 15 and 13 respectively. Sophomore Liz Moynihan (Storrs, CT) grabbed 10 rebounds for Tufts, while Kornegay and senior co-captain Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) had eight apiece.

Cosby led the Bears with 14 points and six rebounds while DePina added eight rebounds and a steal to her 12-point total. Sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) added five points and three boards.

The Jumbos will take their 7-2 record into the new year, where they will re-start play on January 2 against Middlebury in the Maine Maritime Tournament. Bridgewater State falls to 5-3 and will return to action on December 28 against Widener in the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach.
