Women's Basketball Downs Thomas College, 105-60

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) highlighted six players in double-figure scoring with a team-best 15 points with nine assists and six steals to help lead Bridgewater State to a 105-60 triumph this evening over Thomas in the opening round of the P&H Travel Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament this evening at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears (0-1) will take on Trinity tomorrow at 3 o'clock in the championship while the Terriers face off against Springfield in the consolation game at 1 PM. The Bantams handed the Pride a 61-45 setback in the other semifinal this evening.

In the season opener for both squads, BSU senior Ciara Shaughnessy (Lowell, Mass.) netted 14 as sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) added 13 points, five rebounds and five helpers. Freshman Alana Watkins (Wareham, Mass.) notched 12 points and seven caroms while junior Michaela Crosby (Walpole, Mass.) and senior Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

For Thomas senior Karlin Bird (Lee, Maine) led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting with a seven-for-10 line from the charity stripe. Junior Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) corralled a game-best 12 rebounds and first-year Callie Theodore (Ripley, Maine) chipped in with seven points and six boards for the visitors.

The Terriers could not shrug off turning the ball over 38 times – 23 of which were swiped by the Bears – while they shot just 32 percent for the game (17-for-53).

BSU was red hot throughout the duration of the contest from the field as they finished at a 51 percent clip (23-for-45) and enjoyed making seven of their 19 attempts from beyond the arc (7-for-19). The hosts also maintained slight edges in total rebounds (44-43) and offensive boards (18-17).

The last time Bridgewater State went over the century mark in scoring for a game was a 100-75 victory over Fitchburg State at home during the regular season.
