Women's Basketball Falls to Randolph-Macon in NCAA Tournament

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Behind 27 points and 15 rebounds from Taylor Wieczorek, the Randolph-Macon College women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division Tournament with an 80-69 victory over Bridgewater State University on Friday evening in Annville, Pennsylvania.

Randolph-Macon (23-6) will take on host Lebanon Valley College in second round action with the winner advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.  Bridgewater State ends the season with a record of 19-8.

Corey Cuddiy (Scituate, Mass.) and Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) paced the Bears with 12 points apiece.  Cuddihy added three rebounds and three steals, while DePina notched six boards and a block.  Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass.) checked in with 11 points and ten rebounds while Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) came off the bench to tally eight points, five boards, two assists and two steals.

Bridgewater erased an early 15-0 deficit as the Bears slowly chipped away at the deficit and outscored the Yellow Jackets 33-21 over the final 15 minutes of the opening half.  Bridgewater actually pulled to within one on a DePina layup with 43 seconds left in the stanza.  However, Randolph-Macon's Molly Brown knocked down a jumper with 21 seconds on the clock to send the Yellow Jackets into the intermission with a 36-33 lead.

The second half was tight throughout the first 18 minutes.  Down 42-37, Bridgewater went on a 12-3 spurt with Cuddihy and Boutilette both scoring four points during the run.

There would be six ties the rest of the way with Bridgewater's Cosby knotting the score for the last time at 66-66 with 3:25 left to play.

Bridgewater would struggle from that point on as the Bears missed five straight shots while the Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
