Cuddihy Earns MVP Honors as Bears Capture Hunter Tournament Title

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Bridgewater State University senior guard Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, Mass.) took home MVP honors as the Bears captured the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament title with an 80-54 victory over host Hunter on Saturday afternoon.

Cuddihy scored 19 points on 5 of 6 shooting from three-point range.  She also dished out six assists, and pulled down five boards in the win.   In the two day tournament, Cuddihy averaged 17.5 points, six assists, four rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 73% (8-for-11) from behind the arc.

Freshman forward Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) was also selected to the all-tournament team, posting a pair of double-doubles in her first two collegiate games.  Boutilette poured in 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting and also grabbed 12 rebounds including six off the offensive glass in the win over Hunter.

The Bears scored the first 13 points of the game and never looked back.  Bridgewater led 45-28 at halftime and got up by as many as 42 points (76-34) in the final stanza before settling for the 80-54 triumph.

Bridgewater shot 47% from the floor and limited Hunter to just 32% shooting. The Bears also held a 48-37 rebounding advantage and forced 24 turnovers.

Sophomore guard Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior guard Brittney Chappron (Braintree, Mass.) also finished in double-figure scoring for the Bears.  Homich finished with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and a game-high six steals.  Chappron added 11 points and three boards.

BSU freshman Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) chipped in with five points, four rebounds and seven of the team's 24 assists.

Freshman forward Kristen Markoe (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the host Hawks (1-2) with 25 points, 12 boards and four assists.

Bridgewater (2-0) will look to make it three straight wins on Tuesday night as the Bears visit Rhode Island College for a 5:30 game with the Anchorwomen.
