Women's Basketball Falls to #23 Ranked Simpson, 84-46

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Simpson College women's basketball  team jumped out to a 13-3 lead and never looked back as the 23rd ranked Storm breezed to an 84-46 win over Bridgewater State College at the Surf 'N Slam San Diego Hoop Classic hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University.  

Bridgewater State went 0-3 at the tournament as the Bears dropped to 3-7 on the season.  Simpson improves to 9-2 with the victory.  

Sophomore center Stacey Schutjer (Titonka, IA) paced the Storm with 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting.  She also added five rebounds and two blocked shots.  Senior guard Katie Kitzman (Gilman, IA) chipped in with 16 points and three boards.  

Junior guard Brittney Chappron (Braintree, MA) led the way for Bridgewater State with 15 points.  Freshman forward Michaela Cosby (Walpole, MA) added six points and nine rebounds.  

Simpson was up 47-15 at the intermission and led by as many as 41 points (65-24) before settling for the 84-46 victory.  The Storm shot 57% (34-for-60) from the field and forced 34 Bridgewater State turnovers.  The Bears connected on just 18 of 58 field goal attempts (31%) and finished 2-for-20 from three-point range.  

Bridgewater is off until January 9th when the Bears open Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play at Westfield State College.  Game time is 1:00 PM.
