Women's Basketball Falls to RIC, 77-56

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Rhode Island College sophomore forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) scored 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting to lead the visiting Anchorwomen to a 77-56 victory over Bridgewater State College this evening at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

RIC remains perfect on the young season with a 4-0 record. The Bears fall to 2-2 with their second straight defeat.

Sophomore guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) led the Anchorwomen in scoring with 17 points.  She connected on 3 of 7 three-point attempts and registered four steals.  Junior guard Lauren Harrington (Exeter, RI) pulled down a game-high ten rebounds and notched a game-best seven steals off the bench.

Sophomore guard Brittany Saccoccio (Glocester, RI) added 12 points, six assists and four steals for the visitors, while freshman reserve Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) chipped in with ten points on 5 of 8 shooting . 

Freshman guard Elisha Homich (Lowell, MA) paced the Bears with 10 points, five  rebounds and three steals.  Sophomore forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) scored nine points and grabbed five boards, while freshman guard Michaela Cosby (Walpole, MA) added nine points, four rebounds and two steals.  

The Anchorwomen took advantage of 34 Bridgewater State turnovers, turning them into 36 points.  19 of those turnovers came in the first half.

Rhode Island College never trailed in the game.  Leading by just three points with under three minutes left in the opening stanza, the Anchorwomen ended the half on a 10-0 run to take control of the game for good.  RIC got up by as many as 26 points in the second half before settling for the 77-56 win.
