Megan Sharon Named MASCAC Softball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman outfielder Megan Shannon has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Softball Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Sharon batted .429 (9-21) with three doubles, a walk, a stolen base, five runs scored and five RBI in a 5-1 week for the Bears last week. The East Longmeadow, Massachusetts product also posted a .455 on base percentage and a .571 slugging percentage.

Sharon went 4-for-7 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, two runs and three RBI in a MASCAC sweep of MCLA, and 3-for-7 with a double, a run and an RBI in a non-conference split with UMass Dartmouth. She also went 2-for-7 with a double, two runs and an RBI in a conference sweep of Westfield State University.

In 32 games this season, Sharon is batting .314 (33-105) with two home runs, six doubles, a triple, 11 walks, 25 runs scored and 25 RBI. She has also stolen seven bases.

Sharon is tied for fourth in the MASCAC in stolen bases, tied for seventh in home runs and tied for tenth in runs scored. She also ranks ninth among the conference leaders in runs batted in.

The BSU softball team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 18-19 including a 12-2 mark in the MASCAC as the Bears captured a share of the conference regular season title. It marks the program’s 26th MASCAC crown and first since 2014.

Bridgewater State is the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
