Natalie Sorrenti Named MASCAC Softball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore pitcher Natalie Sorrenti has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.

Sorrenti went 2-1 in the circle last week with three complete games and a shutout. The Bridgewater, Massachusetts product also posted a 0.70 earned run average and fanned nine batters in 20 innings of work, while opponents batted just .127 (9-71) against her.

Sorrenti tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout with three strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Mass. Maritime. She also allowed a run on three hits with four strikeouts in a 14-1 win at Westfield State, and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in a 2-1 setback to the Owls.

In 11 appearances this season including nine starts, Sorrenti is 8-2 with nine complete games and a pair of shutouts. She is also sporting a 1.66 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings of work.

Sorrenti currently leads the MASCAC in earned run average and ranks third in the conference in wins, shutouts and batting average against (.215). She is also fifth overall in complete game and sixth in strikeouts.

The BSU softball team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 17-17 with a 9-5 mark in MASCAC play. The Bears are seeded fourth in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host #5 Salem State University in an opening round contest on Wednesday afternoon at four.
