BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman outfielder Kacie Carvalho has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.

Carvalho batted .579 (11-19) with a triple, four runs and three runs batted in during a 5-1 week for the Bears. The Fairhaven, Massachusetts product went 4-for-7 with two runs and two RBI in a MASCAC sweep of MCLA, and 3-for-6 with a run scored in a conference doubleheader split with Fitchburg State. She was also 4-for-6 at the plate with a triple, run and RBI in a non-conference sweep of Curry College.

In 21 games this season, including 15 starts, Carvalho is batting .410 (16-39) with two doubles, a triple, eight runs scored and eight RBI. She is also sporting a .452 on base percentage and a .513 slugging percentage.

The season continues for the BSU softball team on Tuesday afternoon as the Bears (19-13, 7-3 MASCAC) host a pair of games with conference foe Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Game one of the twinbill is slated to get underway at 3:30.
