Alexandra Wright Named MASCAC Softball Co-Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman pitcher Alexandra Wright has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Co-Rookie of the Week. Wright shares the weekly honor along with Salem State University third baseman Marisa Sanchez.

Wright went 1-0 with a save and a 0.00 earned run average in four appearances out of the bullpen for the Bears at the season-opening Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Lakeville, Massachusetts product allowed just one unearned run in 8 1/3 innings of work while striking out 10.

Making her BSU debut, Wright hurled three scoreless inning with five strikeouts in a 6-1 setback to Minnesota Morris. She picked up her first collegiate win in a 5-4 extra inning victory over Drew University as she gave up just one unearned run in two innings of work with one strikeout. Wright also tossed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in a 14-2 triumph over Wisconsin Lutheran, and got the final four outs in a 5-3 win over Emmanuel College to earn her first career save.

Wright is currently tied for the MASCAC lead in saves (1) and ranks ninth in total strikeouts (10). She is also second in the conference in strikeouts per seven innings pitched (8.4).

The BSU softball team posted a record of 7-3 during the trip to Fort Myers.  The Bears are off until Sunday, March 22nd when they travel to Wheaton College for a noontime doubleheader with the Lyons.
