Amber White Named to NFCA All-New England First Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior pitcher Amber White has been selected to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England First Team.

In 30 appearances including 26 starts this season, White is 25-3 with 24 complete games and a school single-season record 15 shutouts.  She has posted an impressive 0.51 earned run average with 156 strikeouts in 191 1/3 innings of work. Opponents are also batting just .153 against her.

White leads the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in wins, winning percentage (.893), shutouts, ERA, complete games, games started, innings pitched and appearances.  She is also tied for first in the conference in saves (2) and ranks second in strikeouts.

On a national level, White ranks second in all of Division III in both ERA and shutouts, and is fifth in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (3.70).

White led the Bears to both the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles.  She was named the MASCAC Pitcher of the Year for the third straight season and MASCAC Tournament MVP for the second consecutive year.

Bridgewater advanced to NCAA Division III Tournament play for the 22nd time in program history.  The Bears captured the Wellesley Regional championship behind the solid pitching by White who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

By virtue of the Wellesley Regional championship, Bridgewater advances to this week's Super Regional round.  The Bears will host a best of three series against defending national champion Tufts University begining on Thursday afternoon at four. 

In 86 appearances including 72 starts over three seasons with the Bears, White is 56-16 (.778) with a 0.91 earned run average, 63 complete games and 29 shutouts as well as six saves.  She has also fanned 425 batters in 515 2/3 innings of work.

A three-time MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, White is BSU's all-time leader in shutouts and earned run average.  She is also tied for second all-time with three no-hitters and ranks third in program history in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched.

White, who also spent one season (2011) at Plymouth State University before transferring to BSU, has produced 66 collegiate wins with a career 1.20 ERA and 525 strikeouts in 635 innings of work.

Notes: White garnered MASCAC Pitcher of the Week honors an impressive eight times during the 2014 campaign. She was also named the ECAC Division III New England Pitcher of the Week on five occasions this season and was selected as the NFCA Division III National Pitcher of the Week on April 16th.
