BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman second baseman Courtney Leddy has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.
A native of Saugus, Massachusetts, Leddy helped the Bears capture the NCAA Division III Wellesley Regional championship this past weekend. Leddy batted .500 (4-8) with a double, three runs and two RBI during the tournament title run.
Leddy went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI in a 6-1 first round win over host Wellesley College, and 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI in a 5-2 nine-inning semifinal round win over Saint Joseph’s College. She capped off the tournment by going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the Bears' 3-1 championship game win over Wellesley.
By virtue of the Wellesley Regional championship, Bridgewater advances to the Super Regional round. The Bears will host a best of three series against defending national champion Tufts University begining on Thursday afternoon at four.
In the last 12 games, Leddy is batting .364 (12-33) with eight runs scored and a .345 on base percentage. Defensively during that span, she has accepted 57 straight chances at second base without an error.
