BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman second baseman Courtney Leddy has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Saugus, Massachusetts, Leddy helped the Bears capture the program's ninth MASCAC Tournament championship this past weekend.  She batted .556 (5-9) with a double and a team-high five runs scored during the tournament title run.

Leddy went 1-for-3 and scored a run in a 6-0 MASCAC quarterfinal win over Framingham State, and went 1-for-3 with a run in a 6-0 semifinal round victory over Worcester State.  She capped off the tournament by going a 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three runs scored as the Bears captured the tournament title with an 8-1 triumph over Framingham State.

By virtue of the MASCAC Tournament championship, Bridgewater earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Bears are competing in the NCAAs for the second consecutive year and 22nd time in program history.

Bridgewater will begin NCAA Division III Tournament play on Friday as the Bears will compete at a four-team Regional hosted by Wellesley College.  BSU will take on host Wellesley on Friday afternoon at 3:30.

In the last nine games, Leddy is batting .320 (8-25) with a .345 on base percentage. Defensively during that span, she has accepted 39 straight chances at second base without an error.
