Murtagh Captures New England Title at NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) captured the New England title in the 60-meter hurdles during the second and final day of the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Boston University.

Murtagh posted a season-best time of 8.04 seconds in the finals of the hurdles to win the event and earn All-NEICAAA honors. He was the only Division III student-athlete featured in the finals.

Murtagh currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the hurdles.

Senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) finished 15th overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.06 seconds, while sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) recorded a leap of 45 feet, 1.50 inches (13.75m) to place 17th in the triple jump.

The Bears finished tied for 24th place in the team standings with ten points.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Park Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
