Cullinane Nets Career-High Five Goals as Field Hockey Blanks Framingham, 7-0

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Senior forward Brittany Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored a career-high five goals to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 7-0 shutout victory over Little East Conference foe Framingham State university on Tuesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

The Bears improve to 4-2 on the year and 2-2 in the Little East, while the host Rams fall to 0-5 overall and 0-4 on conference play. Framingham has been outscored 34 to 1 this season.

Cullinane opened the scoring in the eighth minute of play off an assist from junoir forward Tori O'Dea (South Dennis, Mass.). The Bears scored again just three minutes later when senior forward Hannah Ciavarra (Holliston, Mass.) potted her first collegiate goal as she tapped in a cross from sophomore midfielder Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.).

The visitors rounded out the first half scoring in the 20th minute when O'Dea tallied her first goal of the season with junior midfielder Christine Curran (Ayer, Mass.) assisting.

Cullinane exploded for four goals in a span of 11 minutes and 18 seconds early in the second half to put the game well out of reach. Three of the four goals were unassisted, while senior forward Hayley Grimes (East Longmeadow, Mass.) assisted on Cullinane's third marker of the half.

BSU sophomore Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.) and freshman Jillian Delaney (Foxboro, Mass.) split the game between the pipes for the Bears as they combined to make five saves. Junior defender Katherine McKenna (Wilmington, Mass.) also chipped in with a defensive save.

Sophomore Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) made five stops in goal for the Rams.

Bridgewater held a 21-8 shot advantage as well as an 18-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Rams return to the field on Thursday afternoon when they host Regis College at four. The Bears will entertain Fitchburg State University in a Little East matchup on Saturday also at four.

Notes: Cullinane's five goals are the most by a BSU field hockey player in a game since the turn of the century. The previous high was four goals by former standout Shelby Farland in 2012. Farland, who accomplished the feat twice that year, finished the season with a school-record 32 goals.
