Field Hockey Volunteers at Cradles To Crayons

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State field hockey team recently volunteered at the Cradles to Crayons organization in Brighton.

The field hockey players spent time sorting through children's clothing, putting together different packs of apparel that would be distributed to kids in need.  In just 90 minutes of work, the BSU team broke a record by creating 199 clothing packs, which were grouped together by size and gender.

Creating one pack of clothing required several steps, and the team's prompt completion of each task allowed the ladies to build their team chemistry while assisting in the charity's efforts.  The ladies had to collect enough apparel for each pack – which consisted of two pairs of pants, four shirts, one sweater, one pajama, and one batch of socks – and then find matching outfits to finish the assortment.

"It was very humbling for all of us to learn about the 300,000+ children ages 0-12 in the state of Massachusetts who do not have the essentials to thrive," remarked BSU field hockey coach Tia Pydynkowski after the visit.

"The girls had a good time volunteering and were feeling appreciative of what they grew up with and what they still have today."

Cradles to Crayons provides children from ages 0 to 12 the basics in life, such as clothing, school supplies, and toys.  The charitable organization has two locations, one just outside of Boston in Brighton and one in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.
