Field Hockey Drops 4-1 Decision to Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Highlighted by four different goal scorers, the Salve Regina University field hockey team posted a 4-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at Gaudet Field.

The host Seahawks improve to 11-2 on the season with their eighth straight win, while the visiting Bears slip to 7-6 overall.

Senior forward Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) paced host Salve as she had a hand in each of the Seahawks' first two goals. Gagnon notched an unassisted tally just 6:15 into the contest, and set up a goal by sophomore forward Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.) in the 13th minute of play.

Senior forward Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) potted her team-leading 20th goal of the season later in the first half as the Seahawks held a 3-1 lead at the intermission. Tepper eclipsed her own single-season school record of 19 goals set last season.

BSU senior forward Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) found the back of the net for the Bears as she potted her sixth goal of the season in the 22nd minute which, at the time, cut the deficit in half. Field has produced six goals and two assist over the last six games.

Senior forward Alexisse Clinger (Nantucket, Mass.) capped off the scoring in the 62nd minute with senior midfielder Mary Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) assisting on the goal.

The Bears held a 17-10 shot advantage for the game as well as an 11-5 edge in penalty corners. The Seahawks, however, capitalized on their opportunities, scoring four times on the ten shots.

Sophomore goaltender Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) turned aside a career-best 11 shots to record her 11th win of the season. BSU junior netminder Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) made six saves in the setback for the Bears.

The Seahawks travel to Johnson & Wales University on Thursday afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Wildcats. The Bears head to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday for a 1:00 PM Little East Conference game with the Colonials.
