Field Leads Field Hockey to 4-0 Shutout Over Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Junior Brittany Field totaled five points on two goals and one assist to lift the Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 4-0 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over the Falcons of Fitchburg State University this afternoon at Elliot Field.

In the opening half, Bridgewater State grabbed the lead at the 26:07 mark as Field collected a loose ball and fired a shot into the right side of the cage for her third marker on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Bears doubled their margin (2-0) roughly eight minutes later when Field gathered a feed from sophomore Christine Curran and deposited the ball inside the near post for her second score of the contests.

Following intermission, the visitors upped its lead at the 39:40 mark as senior Kelsey Kiely received a pass from Field and wristed a shot into the back of the cage for her fourth tally on the season to make the score 3-0.

Bridgewater State capped the scoring in the 58th minute of play when junior Brittany Cullinane tipped in a shot by newcomer Samantha Hayes inside the far post for her team-leading sixth goal the 2015 campaign, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the match, Bridgewater State held a 16-9 margin in shots, while also holding an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners. In the cage, the duo of senior Judith Valentin and freshman Brittany Linane combined for eight saves for the Falcons, while junior Kaylyn Allahyarian finished with seven stops for the Bears in the complete game effort.

Fitchburg State (4-6, 0-5 LEC) returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State to take on the Warriors at 4 p.m. Bridgewater State (6-4, 3-2 LEC) will host Worcester State on Wednesday for a contest starting at 7 p.m.
