Second Half Scoring Outburst Lifts Field Hockey to 6-3 Win Over Framingham

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forwards Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) and Kelsey Kiely (Mansfield, Mass.) tallied two goals apiece, and senior midfielder Emily Mosca (Dedham, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, to lead the Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 6-3 Little East Conference over visiting Framingham State University on Tuesday night at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 5-3 on the season (5-0 at home) and 2-2 in the Little East, while the Rams slide to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Kiely got the Bears on the board with an unassisted tally in the closing minutes of the first half. Kiely took advantage of a goaltender miscue as the Framingham keeper came out of the net and fanned on a clearance. Kiely tucked a shot into the unguarded net for her first goal of the season.

The two teams headed to the intermission with BSU holding 1-0 advantage, That would set the stage for a second half offensive explosion as the two teams combined for eight goals over the final 35 minutes.

Kiely made it a 2-0 game less than two minutes into the second half. Mosca picked up the assist as she stick-handled down the right side and slipped a pass towards the net. Kiely beat the goaltender with a shot inside the right post.

The Rams cut the lead in half in the 44th minute on a Sharon Sears (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scoring strike. The junior midfielder one-timed a pass from senior forward Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) and beat the BSU netminder to the left side.

Less than five minutes later, Sears knotted the score at 2-2 as she found the back of the net off the rebound of a Kelly shot.

Senior midfielder Mary Roche (Arlington, Mass.) regained the lead for the Bears with her first goal of the season in the 54th minute off a penalty corner from freshman forward Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.). Roche took the corner pass and blasted a shot from just inside the circle.

Just 2:13 later, sophomore forward Tori O'Dea (South Dennis, Mass.) set up Mosca for the Bears' fourth goal of the game. O'Dea got by the Framingham defense and slid a backhanded pass through the crease to Mosca who tapped the ball into the wide open right side.

Field extended the BSU advantage to 5-2 in the 65th minute with her first tally of the 2015 campaign. Field hopped on the rebound of a Hayes shot and deposited a backhander into the back of the net.

The Rams made it a 5-3 game as freshman defender Hannah Carnes (Taunton, Mass.) converted a pass from senior forward Samantha Pajer (Leicester, Mass.) with just under four minutes left to play.

Field capped off the scoring with no time remaining on the clock off another penalty corner as she redirected a shot from sophomore defender Christine Curran (Ayer, Mass.) inside the right post.

The Bears held a 23-12 shot advantage as well as a 14-6 edge in penalty corners.

BSU junior Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) made four saves to pick up her fourth win of the season. Senior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) and junior Alexandra Ricco (Agawam, Mass.) combined to make eight saves between the pipes for the Rams.

Both teams are back in action with non-conference games on Thursday afternoon at four. The Bears travel to Anna Maria College to take on the AMCATS, while the Rams entertain the Hawks of Becker College.
