Field Hockey Drops 3-0 Decision to Plymouth State

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. – The Plymouth State University field hockey posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the New Hampton School field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alivia Bates (Pennsauken, N.H.) made six saves to lead the host Panthers.

PSU scored twice in the first five minutes of the game and tacked on another in the second half to secure the victory. The Panthers are now 5-2 this season, including 3-0 in conference play, while Bridgewater State falls to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the LEC.

Junior Nicole Burgess (Mexico, Maine) put PSU on the board just three minutes into the game, tallying her team-leading eighth goal of the season on a backhander from the left side. Junior Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.), in her first game back from an injury, doubled the Panther lead less than three minutes later, picking up a rebound from a blocked shot and firing it into the back of the net.

PSU added an insurance goal with eight minutes to go in the game when sophomore Lily Davis (Boscawen, N.H.) redirected a crossing pass from classmate Katie Martin (Waterbury Center, Vt.) into the goal.

The home team finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots. BSU goalie Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) finished with nine saves in the Bears' cage.

PSU is home again Tuesday at the New Hampton School, hosting LEC foe University of Southern Maine at 6:30 p.m. BSU returns home to host Framingham State University Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
