O'Dea, Cullinane Lead Field Hockey to 7-1 Win Over New England College

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Tori O'Dea (South Dennis, Mass.) netted her first career hat trick and junior midfielder Brittany Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) potted a pair of goals to lead the Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 7-1 non-conference victory over visiting New England College on Wednesday night at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Pilgrims slip to 2-7. Bridgewater State has won each of the last five meetings between the two teams dating back to 2010.

Sophomore midfielder Kayla Donahue (Natick, Mass.) staked the visiting Pilgrims to a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest off an assist from freshman midfielder Leah Foster (Greenwich, N.Y.).

The Bears, however, dominated play the rest of the way. O'Dea potted the equalizer with a shot that beat the NEC netminder between the pads off a cross from senior midfielder Emily Mosca (Dedham, Mass.) in the 20th minute.

Cullinane scored off the rebound of a Mosca shot with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to give the Bears a 2-1 lead at the intermission.

The second half was all Bridgewater State as Cullinane started the scoring spree with an unassisted tally in the 44th minute.  Back-to-back goals from O'Dea less than two minutes apart made it a 5-1 game.

Mosca blistered a shot inside the left post from the top of the half circle off a feed from sophomore defender Christine Curran (Ayer, Mass.) to give the Bears' a 6-1 lead in the 58th minute. The goal marked Mosca's first of the season.

Senior midfielder Mary Dubin (Holden, Mass.) capped off the scoring with her first goal of the 2015 campaign off an assist from classmate Mary Roche (Arlington, Mass.) with 1:25 remaining in the contest.

Bridgewater held a 34-2 shot advantage as well as a 12-0 edge in penalty corners.

BSU junior Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) earned the win between the pipes for the Bears. Sophomore Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) made 16 saves in goal for the Pilgrims.

Mosca finished with a goal and two assists.

The Bears travel to Plymouth State University on Saturday morning for an 11:30 Little East Conference game with the Panthers. The Pilgrims open up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at UMaine Farmington on Saturday afternoon at two.
