BRIDGWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman defender Janet Maher has been selected as the Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.
Maher notched two defensive saves in a perfect 2-0 week as the Bears posted wins over Little East rivals Salem State University and Eastern Connecticut State University. The Mansfield, Massachusetts product made a clutch defensive save with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to secure a 2-1 victory over the Vikings. She also added a key stop in a 2-1 win on the road over the Warriors.
Maher has started 15 games as a rookie this season and has a goal and two defensive saves to her credit. She is tied for ninth among the Little East statistical leaders in defensive saves.
The BSU field hockey team is currently 8-8 on the season and tied for fourth place in the Little East standings with a 6-4 conference mark. The Bears travel to Wheaton College on Tuesday afternoon (4:00) before wrapping up regular season play at home on Saturday afternoon (3:30) against LEC rival Plymouth State University.
