Arnold's Hat Trick Leads Field Hockey to 5-1 Win over NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. -- Junior forward Jennifer Arnold (West Yarmouth, Mass.) notched her first career hat trick to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over New England College on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win the visiting Bears improve to 3-4 on the season, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-10 overall. The five-goal outburst marks the Bears' highest scoring output of the season.

New England College would strike early as Kayla Donahue (Natick, Mass.) would record her first collegiate goal one-timing in a pass from Cody Kent (Rye, N.H.) just 2:38 into the opening half.

Bridgewater would respond just minutes later as Arnold put in a corner from Brittany Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) knotting the game at 1-1 at the 5:24 mark.

The Bears would tack on two additional opening half goals, including an unassisted goal by Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) at the 10:45 mark and a score by Arnold in the 26th minute, giving Bridgewater the 3-1 halftime lead.

Arnold would take advantage of a Bear penalty stroke in the 51st minute completing the hat trick with her team leading fourth goal of the season. Bridgewater would tack on the final score of the game with just under five minute remaining in regulation as Kelsey Kiely (Mansfield, Mass) would ricochet in a shot from Mary Roche (Arlington, Mass.).

The Bears finished the game out-shooting the Pilgrims 19-3 and recording a 7-2 advantage in corners.

Picking up the win in goal for Bridgewater was Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) who stopped two Pilgrim shots.  Splitting time in net for NEC was Karlie Bove (Jefferson, Mass.) and Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) who each recorded three saves in 35 minutes of work.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they open up North Atlantic Conference play hosting in-state rival Colby-Sawyer College. Bridgewater will hit the field again on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they host conference foe Fitchburg State University at noon.
