Arnold's OT Winner Lifts Field Hockey to 2-1 Victory

GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Jennifer Arnold (West Yarmouth, Mass.) slotted in her first goal of the season in the 77th minute to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a 2-1 overtime triumph over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, Bridgewater State halts a three-game slide to improve to 2-3 overall and starts its 2014 Little East Conference schedule at 1-0.  The loss dips Southern Maine to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Arnold delivered the win for her team six minutes and 44 seconds into the first overtime period when she collected the rebound off of junior Emily Mosca's (Dedham, Mass.) original shot. Arnold beat Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) to the left for the game-winner.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Bridgewater State forced the overtime action in the 52nd minute when junior Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) benefited from a well-played centering pass from junior Marinna Emond (Seekonk, Mass.).  Field's goal came less than two minutes after the Huskies had taken a 1-0 lead.  Huskies' sophomore Samantha Crosman (South Berwick, Maine) scored her first goal of the season at in the 51st minute on a USM penalty corner. Crosman benefitted from assists from seniors Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine) and Rebecca Pratt (Cornville, Maine).

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) made nine saves to earn the victory for the Bears.  Kasbohm was the tough-luck loser making 10 saves in the loss. USM sophomore Leanne Reichert (Portland, Maine) made a defensive save for the Huskies.

Southern Maine hosts New England College in a non-conference game on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).  Bridgewater State hosts Keene State on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference tilt.
