BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior midfielder Jaclyn Holahan (South Yarmouth, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting New England College on Wednesday evening at Swenson Field.

The host Bears improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Pilgrims fall to 1-9.

Holahan opened the scoring on a penalty stroke goal in the 27th minute and made it a 2-0 game with just 15 seconds remaining in the first half as she scored off a stick-stop on a penalty corner.  Senior forwards Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) and Carissa Vizakis (Bellingham, Mass.) picked up the assists on Holahan's second tally.

Vizakis potter her fifth goal of the season in the opening minutes of the second half as she knocked home a feed from senior midfielder Georgina Bagordo (Sparta, N.J.).

Miskiv notched her team-leading sixth marker of the season in the 47th minute to round out the scoring.

Bridgewater held a 20-4 shot advantage for the game as well as a 15-3 edge in penalty corners.  Vizakis and Miskiv both finished with a goal and an assist.

Senior Kacie Sturgeon (Dartmouth, Mass.) made two saves to post her third shutout of the season between the pipes for the Bears.  Junior defender Sarah Gendron (North Dighton, Mass.) came up with a big defensive save with just 40 seconds left in the game to help secure the shutout.

Senior netminder Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.) turned aside 11 shots for the Pilgrims.

Bridgewater travels to Little East Conference foe Fitchburg State University on Saturday evening (6:00 PM) for the first of three straight road contests.  NEC entertains North Atlantic Conference rival Husson University on Saturday afternoon at one.
