Field Hockey Falls to Plymouth State, 1-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) scored the only goal of the game in the first half Saturday afternoon and the Plymouth State University defense did the rest as the Panthers defeated Bridgewater State University, 1-0, in Little East Conference field hockey action at Arold Field.

The Panther defense posted its seventh shutout of the season, limiting Bridgewater State to just six shots for the game.  Junior goalie Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) stopped four shots to record her sixth whitewash of the season.  PSU won its seventh game in a row to improve to 14-1 overall and 9-1 in Little East games, while BSU slips to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Colborn put the Panthers on the board in the 11th minute of the game, taking a nice pass from sophomore Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) and firing a rocket into the back of the BSU net.  Colborn now has 12 goals on the season and four goals in her last three games.

PSU finished with a 6-2 advantage in shots for the first half and the 1-0 lead into the intermission. Both defenses played tough in the second half, as shots were hard to come by.  PSU managed five shots to BSU's four, giving the Panthers an 11-6 margin for the game.  The home team also had a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Junior goalie Cassie Johansen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) finished with four saves in the Bears' cage.

PSU looks to continue its winning streak on Wednesday with a non-conference game at Saint Joseph's College (Maine).  BSU will be back in action Tuesday at Salem State for the completion of a game that was suspended last week with the Bears leading 4-1 with 13:48 remaining.
