Cass Captures Meet Title to Lead Women's Cross Country at Wheaton/Babson Season Opener

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) captured the meet title to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team on Saturday morning at the 10th Annual Wheaton & Babson Season Opener held at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course in Attleboro.

Cass paced the field of 84 runners as she completed the three-kilometer course in a time of 11:19.45. She edged Abigail Hughes of Division I Holy Cross by nearly four seconds.

Last season, Cass won the race with a time of 12:00.10. 

Junior Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.) was the next BSU harrier to cross the finish line as she checked in with a time of 12:27.96 to place 32nd overall, while senior Ana Imrie (Arlington, Mass.) finished 58th with a time of 13:38.08. Graduate student Lisa Jaeger (Medfield, Mass.) posted a time of 14:48.36 to place 70th.

Cass, Valcovic, Imrie and Jaeger all set cross country 3K personal bests.

Holy Cross won the team title with a low score of 32 points. Suffolk University finished second with 57 points and Brandeis University rounded out the top three teams with 82 points.

Following a two-week hiatus, the BSU women's cross country team will compete at the 51sr Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 21st.
