Volleyball Falls to Salve Regina & host JWU at Wildcat Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  -- The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to host Johnson & Wales and Salve Regina on Saturday during the second and final day of the 2015 Wildcat Invitational.

The Bears went 0-4 during the two-day invitational and slip to 1-8 on the young season. The Bears open MASCAC play at home on Tuesday evening at six against defending conference champion Framingham State.

Johnson & Wales 3, Bridgewater State 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-16)

Junior middle hitter Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) paced the Bears with five kills and a .286 hitting percentage, while junior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) tallied 17 assists. Junior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) chipped in with seven kills and eight digs.

Emily Kalmink dominated the match for the host Wildcats as she tallied 17 kills and an impressive .762 hitting percentage. Kellen Tensen finished with 36 assists and a pair of aces, while Paula Cadavid notched 19 digs, six kills and two aces.

Salve Regina 3, Bridgewater State 2 (20-25, 21-25, 25-18, 28-26, 15-10)

After taking the first two sets (25-20, 25-21), the Bears watched the Seahawks rally for the 3-2 victory. Salve battled back to win the finals three sets, 25-18, 28-26 and 15-10.

Maymon notched 13 kills and five aces to lead Bridgewater State, while senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) tallied 12 kills. Panner filled the stat sheet with 33 assists, 11 digs, four kills and two acesm while junior defensive specialist Samantha Fasoli (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) recorded 21 digs.

The Bears finished with 14 aces in the match, but also made 15 serving errors.
