Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team split a pair of matches during day one of the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Friday.  The Bears blanked WPI, 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-15), and dropped a 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 11-25, 25-18) decision to Coast Guard.

The loss to Coast Guard snapped Bridgewater's seven-match winning streak.  The Bears are now 13-7 on the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) notched 14 kills to go along with 15 digs in the win over the Engineers.  Freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) added nine kills and an assisted block, while senior libero Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) tallied 19 digs and two aces and sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) chipped in with 31 assists. 

Maymon also paced BSU with 15 kills and 17 digs in the setback to Coast Guard.  Panner finished with 30 assists, while senior right side Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) recorded three kills and 16 digs.

With her 61 assists on the day, Panner increased her career total to 1,266 as she moved into seventh place on the Bears' all-time list.

The JWU Invitational concludes on Saturday.  The Bears take on Western Connecticut State University at 10:00 AM and Plymouth State University at 2:00 PM.
