Melanie Appleman Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University junior setter Melanie Appleman has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

A native of Hyannis, Massachusetts, Appleman averaged 23.2 assists, 12.6 digs and 2.2 kills in five matches for the Bears last week highlighted by a terrific performance in a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Westfield State.  She notched 39 assists, 15 digs, a pair of kills and one ace in the victory over the Owls.

Appleman also recorded 77 assists, 48 digs, nine kills and four aces in four matches for the Bears last weekend at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.

Through 28 matches this season, Appleman ranks second in the MASCAC in assists with 655.  She also has 75 kills, 244 digs and 30 aces on the year.

In 84 matches over her first three seasons with the Bears, Appleman has amassed 1805 assists, 528 digs, 190 kills, 72 aces and 67 blocks (21 solo).

The BSU volleyball team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 11-17 including a 5-1 mark in MASCAC play.  The Bears are seeded second and have a first round bye in this week’s six-team MASCAC Tournament.  They will take on either third seeded Westfield State or number six MCLA in the tournament semifinals on Saturday at Framingham State.
