Shelly DePina Named MASCAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior middle hitter Shelly DePina has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Co-Player of the Week.  DePina shares this week's honor along with Westfield State senior outside hitter Rachel Ryan.

A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, DePina averaged 13.3 kills, 6.3 digs, four blocks and 2.7 aces in a perfect 3-0 week for Bears. She tallied 18 kills, 13 digs and five blocks in 3-2 win over Mount Holyoke as well as 13 kills, six digs and four blocks in 3-2 triumph at Wheaton.  Earlier in the week, DePina collected nine kills, three blocks and five aces in a 3-0 MASCAC victory over Mass. Maritime Academy.

Through seven matches this season, Bridgewater is 4-3 with a 1-0 mark in conference play.  DePina ranks third in the MASCAC in kills (3.14 kpg) and ninth in aces (13).  She also has 19 blocks (12 solo) to her credit as well as 37 digs.

In 74 matches over three seasons, DePina has accumulated 602 kills, 178 blocks (99 solo), 102 digs and 27 aces.  She was a first team all-conference selection in 2009 and was named the MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2008.
