2009 MASCAC Volleyball All-Conference Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball All-Conference Team was revealed with Bridgewater State College having four outstanding representatives selected to the team.

Junior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) and sophomore middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) received All-MASCAC First Team recognition, while junior setter Natalie Cohen (Marston Mills, MA) and senior libero Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) were both second team selections.

The 2009 Bridgewater State volleyball team posted an overall record of 10-19, with a 5-1 mark in conference play.  Seeded second at the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears defeated Worcester State College, 3-0, in the semifinals before dropping a 3-1 decision to top seeded Westfield State College in the tournament title game.

Clerc, the 2008 MASCAC Player of the Year, earned first team honors for the second straight season as she led the Bears in kills with 337 and in aces with 36.  Clerc also finished second on the team in digs with 262. In her three seasons with the team, Clerc has played in 101 matches with 843 career kills to go along with 951 digs and 159 aces.

DePina, last season's MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year, joins Clerc on the All-MASCAC First Team. DePina led the Bears in blocks with 62 (56 solo) and also was second on the team behind Clerc in kills with 293.  Her .260 hitting percentage was easily the high water mark for BSC this season.  DePina has registered 514 kills and 159 blocks (87 solo) through her first two seasons with the squad.

Cohen led the Bears in assists for the second straight season as she posted 728.  She also added 72 kills, 245 digs and 26 aces.  In 97 matches over her first three seasons at BSC, Cohen has 1,652 assists to her credit as well as 285 kills, 548 digs and 54 aces.  This mark's her second consecutive appearance on the All-MASCAC Volleyball Team as she was a first team selection a year ago.

Cobb led the team in digs with 463 and also added 35 aces, second only to Clerc's 36.  In her two seasons on the BSC volleyball team, Cobb has totaled 926 digs to go along with 64 aces and a .920 career serving percentage.
