ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Three Bridgewater State University student-athletes competed in preliminary events on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University in Rochester, New York.
Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.), who was making her fifth NCAA track & field championships appearance, finished tenth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.73 seconds.
Senior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) finished 15th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.96 seconds.
Senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished 16th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.02.
McDonough, Abrantes and McBirney each garnered Second Team All-American honors with their performances.
Both Abrantes and McBirney were making their NCAA championships debut.
On Saturday, senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) will both compete in the high jump. The women's high jump is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM, while the men's high jump is scheduled for noon.
Sands is making her fifth NCAA track & field championships appearance, while Huynh is making his debut.
