
BOSTON, Mass. -- Seniors Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) and Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.), and freshman Graci Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) each garnered All-NEICAAA honors to lead the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team during the second and final day of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
The Bears finished in ninth place (17 pts.) in the team standings at the two-day championship meet which featured teams from all three NCAA divisions in New England.
Arbantes placed third in the 200-meter dash with a finals time of 25.41 seconds, while Inacio placed sixth in the finals of the 200 with a time of 25.75 seconds.
Sands placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 4.5 inches (1.64m).
Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) finished tenth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.03 seconds.
McDonough then headed over to Tufts University for the Tufts National Qualifier and placed second in the finals of the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.83 seconds.
Abrantes, Sands and McDonough are all vying for a spot in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Abrantes is currently ranked 12th in all of Division III in the 400-meter dash while Sands is tied for 11th in the high jump and McDonough is tied for 19th in the hurdles.
The official list for the national championship meet will be announced on Sunday night at eight o'clock on ncaa.com. For each individual event contested, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition.
