
BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the non-scoring Suffolk Relays held at The Track at New Balance.
The meet featured student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as members of track clubs and unattached competitors.
Senior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter dash (57.60) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.38). Abrantes time in the 200 marked a personal-best.
Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made her season debut and placed third in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 4.25 inches (1.63m).
Junior Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 17:59.0, and placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:29.06).
Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.96 seconds. Escalera also finished eighth in the 200 (25.85).
Freshman Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) finished 14th in the 60-meter dash (8.13). Inacio also recorded the 17th best time at the meet in the 200 as she posted a personal-best time of 26.57 seconds. Freshman Bella Grover (Warren, Mass.) checked in at 19th in the 400 (1:07.92).
Abrantes (200, 400), Sands, Cass (5,000), Escalera (60, 200) and Inacio (200) all recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying times or marks. Abrantes (200, 400) and Cass also posted qualifying times or marks for the NEICAAA Championships.
The indoor season continues for the BSU track & field teams next Saturday as the Bears travel to Tufts University for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
