BOSTON, Mass. -- For the second week in a row, Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) has set a Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field record.

The senior finished first in the 400 at the Mini Meet, held at Boston University on Saturday, in a time of 56.65 seconds.

That broke the record held since Feb. 26, 2016 by Jayci Andrews, who ran 57.14 seconds at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships.

Last week, Abrantes set the BSU record in the 500 with a time of 1:15.71 at the Early Bird Invitational in Boston.

That record was 1:18.70 and was held since 2014 by Becca Geldmacher.

BSU had one other first-place finisher in the meet, which did not have any team scoring.

Junior Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) won the 3,000 race in 10:27.45. She was more than three seconds ahead of second-place Elise Casso, who was unattached.

Cass is a two-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Year in women's cross country and has gone to the NCAA Division III Championships two years in a row.

BSU had two of the top five finishers in the 200.

Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) placed second in 26.01 seconds while freshman Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) was fifth in 27.17 seconds.

Senior Natalie Kalgren (Ayer, Mass.) placed in a pair of events. She was third in the shot put (9.12 meters) and fifth in the weight throw (9.55).

BSU had three of the top eight finishers in the mile.

SeniorLily Valcovic (Taunton, Mass.) was sixth in 5:33.44 followed by seniors Kate Brown (Acushnet, Mass.) in seventh in 5:33.97 and Ana Imrie (Arlington, Mass.) in eighth in 6:04.64.

Abrantes, Inacio, Valcovic and Imrie all recorded personal-best times in their respective events.

Abrantes and Cass both qualified for the Division III New England Championships while Abrantes also qualified for the NEICAAA Championships.

Next up on the BSU schedule are the Bryant Indoor Throws Competition in Rhode Island on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and the Suffolk Invitational in Boston on Jan. 11.
