Five Women's Track & Field Bears Compete at Kennesaw State Invitational

KENNESAW, Georgia -- Five members of the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed on Friday at the Kennesaw State Invitational in Kennesaw, Georgia.

The meet featured schools from all three NCAA divisions as well as track clubs.

Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60m).

Junior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.45 seconds, and finished 15th in the 200-meter dash (25.53). Abrantes recorded outdoor best times in both events.

Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.59 seconds, and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 10.75 inches (5.45m). McDonough added a 12th place performance in the 100-meter dash (12.55).

Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) finished 12th in the 200 (25.45) and 14th in the 100 (12.69).

Sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) posted a collegiate best time of 4:58.96 to finish 16th in the 1,500-meter run.

McDonough is currently ranked sixth in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles and tenth in the long jump. Abrantes is 13th nationally in the 400 while Sands is 16th in the high jump and Escalera is 27th in the 200.

Several members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete tomorrow at the Corsair Classis hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
